Nicole Downey, Counselor
Meet Nicole
Transformative growth occurs when we are free enough to explore the depths of our wonders, fears, and challenges. Combining interactive play, self-reflection, and a strong therapeutic connection with a counselor can be an empowering experience for children and their caretakers. I am excited to partner with families and to walk alongside my clients in their personal growth journeys.
"The highest form of research and education is play."
- Neville Vincent Scarfe
More About Nicole's Work
I am a welcoming clinician with a strong background in counseling and education. I enjoy supporting children, adolescents, and their caretakers to navigate emotional regulation, self expression, and interpersonal obstacles. I value inclusivity and integrate multiculturalism in my practices. I have extensive experience supporting members of the LGBTQIA+ community, those with learning differences, and children with specific diagnoses such as ADHD, autism, anxiety, and depression.
I graduated from the School Counseling program at Northeastern Illinois University and am working towards my Play Therapy Certification under the supervision of Jessica Bloom, LCPC, RPT-S. My experience as a school counselor has provided me the opportunity to understand the unique challenges that children and adolescents face today such as the impacts of social media and the pressure to perform well academically. Prior to pursuing counseling, I worked as an early childhood education teacher, gaining valuable insight into child development and the foundational skills that contribute to lifelong learning and well-being. I love using dramatic play, storytelling, creating art, and interacting with different sensory activities to help young people express themselves, build confidence, and navigate challenges.
